Behind the jewellery
Made with the wearer in mind.
A beautiful piece needs to feel right as well as look right. The height of a setting, the curve of a band and the finish against your skin all deserve attention.
At our Hatton Garden workshop, design, metalwork, stone setting and finishing come together around those details. Whether you are commissioning an engagement ring or bringing a much-loved piece back to us, we begin by understanding what you want from it.
From idea to finished piece
The work behind each detail.
Each commission has its own requirements. These are the stages we consider as a design takes shape, with the method chosen to suit the piece and its stones.
Getting the proportions right
We discuss the style, stone, metal, budget and how you intend to wear the piece. Sketches and, where appropriate, CAD help refine the proportions before making begins. For a ring, this includes the setting height, band width and how a wedding band may sit alongside it.
Shaping the metal
The design guides the construction. Components are formed, assembled and refined, with attention to the setting, joins and surfaces that will sit against the skin. Traditional bench skills and modern techniques each have a place in achieving the intended result.
A setting suited to the stone
The shape and dimensions of each stone matter. Claws, bezels and smaller settings are carefully worked around the stones, balancing their appearance with the support they need. The aim is a secure setting with clean, considered proportions.
The final polish and inspection
Finishing brings the surfaces and details together. We inspect the setting, finish and overall proportions before collection, and talk you through caring for your jewellery. Any engraving or particular finish is discussed as part of your commission.
Materials and construction
Considered from every angle.
Metal colour, setting style and stone shape all change the character of a piece. We help you compare the options, including gold and platinum, with comfort and everyday wear in mind.
We can also explain the hallmarks on your jewellery and the grading report supplied with a particular diamond. These describe different things: hallmarking concerns precious metal fineness, while a grading report records the characteristics of a stone.

A new chapter
Remodelling jewellery
A piece with sentimental value can become the starting point for a new design. Bring it to a consultation so we can assess the stones, metal and condition, then discuss what may be possible while keeping its meaning at the centre of the conversation.
Care over time
Repairs and aftercare
For resizing, a worn setting or a piece that needs attention, we begin with an assessment. The construction and condition determine the work required. We explain the proposed repair, cost and expected timing before you decide to go ahead.

Where do I bring my jewellery?
Start at our showroom at 7 Greville Street, London EC1N 8PQ. Book a consultation so we can set aside time to discuss your design or assess the piece you would like us to work on.
Can I use stones from an existing piece?
We can assess this with you. Suitability depends on the stones’ condition, dimensions and how they are set, as well as the new design. Bring the jewellery and any existing reports or paperwork to your appointment.
How long will the work take?
Timing depends on the design, materials and work required. We will discuss an expected timeframe after reviewing your project. If you have a proposal, wedding or other date in mind, tell us at the start.
What should I bring to a bespoke consultation?
Bring any inspiration, jewellery you would like to remodel, and an idea of your budget. It also helps to think about the styles you enjoy wearing and your preferred metal colour. You do not need a finished design before meeting us.
